Olympique Lyonnais to compete with the best for Antoine Griezmann

Olympique Lyonnais are set to fight the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona and Juventus for the services of Real Sociedad midfielder Antoine Griezmann who has been linked with a move away from the club for a long time “I had a moment where I was not at full level. I’m beginning to take pleasure and all goes well on the ground,” were the words of young winger Antoine Griezmann while talking to RMC.
After a slow start, the 20-year-old midfielder has started finding his true self for Spanish la Liga side Real Sociedad. The speedy winger was linked with a move away from Sociedad last summer with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Olympique de Marseille and Valencia chasing the Frenchman. However, a move never materialised and the youngster took some time to recover from that disappointment.
However, Griezmann has now returned full throttle and his sensational comeback has not gone unnoticed. Italian sports daily, Corriere dello Sport now claims that many top European teams are monitoring the youngster’s progress.
Of those prestigious clubs, Manchester United, Barcelona and Juventus are leading the race. However, the news daily has also reported that French Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais are also willing to fight with the aforementioned clubs in order to bring the French talent to the Stade de Gerland.
The publication also claims that Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho is also keeping a close eye on Griezmann.
Under contract at the Basque club until June 2015, Griezmann might not depart as soon as January but a summer transfer cannot be ruled out. However, Olympique Lyonnais would certainly find it hard to fend off interest from the likes of United, Barcelona and Juventus – teams who can offer the youngster and his current club good offers that can’t be denied.
Furthermore, Les Gones’ financial situation is such that they would be hard-pressed to go spending millions of Euros on new recruits. President, Jean-Michel Aulas has recently issued an austerity plan in order to balance the club’s books which means that the club will have to sell more than just one big-name player if they really want to bring the youngster back to his native France.
