A French newspaper is today claiming that the Gunners are keen on the signing of Real Sociedad wideman Antoine Griezmann. With the January transfer window closing in, Arsenal are one of the teams most commonly mentioned with reports of new player additions.
Although a centre forward to assist Olivier Giroud is thought to be on the agenda, plenty of attacking midfielders are also being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
A new one has been added to the ever-growing list today, with French newspaper Le10 Sport claiming that Arsene Wenger is keen to bring Antoine Griezmann to north London in the new year.
The 22-year-old winger has been impressing with Real Sociedad this term, and has already scored eight goals in 11 starts for the La Liga outfit since the start of the new campaign.
Le10 Sport claim that Arsene Wenger has been encouraged by the impact Mesut Ozil has had on the club since moving to England in the summer, and is eager to add further quality to his squad to push for honours this season.
Arsenal are not the only club in the race for the former Spain under-21 attacker though, with the report stating that Bayern Munich boss Pep Guaridola is a big admirer of Griezmann and is set to battle the Gunners for the winger.
The Spanish coach knows Griezmann well from his time at Barcelona, during which the Sociedad man was repeatedly linked with a switch to the Camp Nou.
Manchester United have played Sociedad twice in the Champions League this term, and have been the club most linked with Griezmann and as such it looks like the star will not be short of options should he opt to leave the club.
The likelihood of signing the Frenchman in the new year though remains to be seen. Although the natural logic indicates that one of these big suitors will be able to bully Sociedad into a sale, the Spanish club’s president Jokin Aperribay has stated he does not want to see Griezmann leave.
"If you are aspiring for the top places in the table, it is because you have very good players," Aperribay said.
"We are of course aware that there are more powerful clubs who could knock on the door, and some individual players might think about leaving. That has happened in our history, as it has in most clubs. But we have no evidence that might happen in this case.
"We have no need to sell players, but if a player wants to leave and we have an interesting offer, then we would have to see. If a player's head is outside Real Sociedad, then they should leave."
