Brendan Rodgers wants highly-rated Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann to be his first signing at Anfield. The
Merseyside club are ready to offer £13 million to secure the left-sider
who has emerged as one of the most promising players in La Liga in
recent seasons.
The Frenchman came through the ranks at Real and
has played well over 100 league games since he broke into the side as a
teenager in 2009.
Left-footed Griezmann is a France under-21
international and has been widely billed as a potential star of the
future for Les Bleus. The 21-year-old was linked with Manchester United
and Arsenal before he signed a new contract last season.
Rodgers
is happy to keep England wide-man Stewart Downing at the club but
believes Liverpool desperate lack pace and creativity from midfield and
regards Griezmann as an obtainable target.
Griezmann has been at
Real Sociedad since the age of 14 and has consistently been linked with a
move away from the Basque side for the last couple of seasons. The
talented young attacker has made over 100 appearances in that time and
is on the fringes of the senior French national team set-up.
